This guide is intended to help Anytime Booking account holders choose which search and/or availability calendars to use on your website and to help you understand what options exist for your booking form.
What is a Widget?
The word ‘widget’ is a generic term for a bit of code that is put on your website to display a program, or a piece of a program – in this case, the widget displays your availability calendar or searches it for availability.
An availability calendar enables you to show potential guests when your holiday accommodation is available for rent and when it is already booked out.
You can choose between one to twelve month calendars for each unit on your account.
This widget is responsive, which means the view will adapt to any sized screen on any device.
Widgets work better on Units than on Sub-Units, so they work best for businesses with a simple category structure, such as glamping and self-catering businesses.
What websites can Widgets integrate with?
In these cases we would normally advise you to use a ‘Book Now’ button to take your customers to your booking page. You can create one of these yourself by adding a button to your website, and setting it to link directly to your booking page. If you need any help with this, please contact us on mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org
Does Anytime Booking charge for producing widgets?
Please note that we can provide you with any number of single unit availability calendars and EITHER ONE multi-unit availability calendar OR ONE search widget (horizontal or vertical) free of charge.
What are the options for availability calendars for my website?
1. A single unit availability calendar
This shows the availability for a single unit and it can be displayed alongside its description on your website.
You can download this yourself from your account’s back-office interface. Go to Tools > Availability widgets > Calendar widgets
You can choose how many months you would like to display and the colour theme of the widget there is a choice of black, orange, blue and green themes.
Once you’ve made your choice, you can simply copy the code and paste this on your website where you want it, or ask your web developer to do this for you.
2. A Multiunit availability calendar
This view is ideal if you have a number of different properties or units which you want to display next to each other, for instance when parties of people might want to book adjacent plots or cottages so they can be close together.
By default, this widget displays a month at a time and can scroll forward to show future availability. It also comes in a range of colours to suit your website: black, orange, blue and green.
We have to prepare this calendar widget for you at this end and then send it to you via email in order for your web developer to embed it onto your website.
3. A Search Widget
This widget helps customers to do a quick search.
This is particularly helpful if the customer is looking for a specific date range and also, we would recommend a search facility if you have more than two categories or multiple units, to save the customer time in looking at individual calendars per pitch, room or property.
We have two options:
A) A horizontal view
B) A vertical view
Depending on how the Anytime Booking account is configured, you may have additional fields for Category (dropdown), Unit (dropdown), Pet Friendly (tick box), Electric Hookup (tick box) and so on.
Your web developer can control the minimum and maximum options on the Party Size and Length of Stay.
Please note that we have to prepare this widget for you and send it to you by email in order to embed it into your website.
The Search results
Once the online customer has used the search widget, they are redirected to the search results page hosted on Anytime Booking’s server, which might look like this:
You can put pictures in the thumbnails, and change the unit title and description by going to the Unit Settings for that unit.
4. A Book Now button
This is a button inviting the customer to ‘Book Now’ or some other version of those words, inserted into your website either by you or your web developer, which when clicked takes your customer directly to your booking page.
This is the simplest type of connection to your booking page and may be particularly suitable for many campsites whose availability may not ever show as full, or when you don’t want customers to be able to choose their own pitch.
Placing widgets on your website
In the majority of cases, the installation of our availability widgets should be a simple copy and paste from the code that we supply onto a web page on your website. This will certainly be the case if your web developer is using traditional desktop software e.g. Adobe Dreamweaver or if you simply build your website from scratch.
For sites that use a Content Management System (CMS) such as WordPress, you can copy and paste the code straight onto a new WordPress page, in text mode, and instantly preview the output.
